Overview: The Hexagon

At the heart of New Eden, six buildings stand in a perfect ring around the colony's central roundabout. Five of these—the Medical Center, Science and Technology Center, Activity Center, Council Chamber, and The Nexus—are identical in their external architecture, constructed during the colony's founding as the original civic structures. A sixth, the Samaya Gallery and Museum of Integration, was added between Books 4 and 5, completing the hexagon and symbolizing the colony's cultural maturation.

While their exteriors echo one another in harmonious design, each building houses a distinct facet of colony life, together forming the complete ecosystem of New Eden society.

Architectural Note: The original five buildings share the same graceful curved facades, sustainable local stone composites, and integrated Utara interface panels at every entrance. The Samaya Gallery, added later, was designed to harmonize with its predecessors while incorporating evolved architectural techniques and expanded exhibition spaces.

⚕️ Medical Center

"First, do no harm — then, heal completely." — Inscription above the main entrance

24/7 Operations Utara Diagnostic Integration Auto-Doc Suites Mental Wellness Wing

The New Eden Medical Center serves as the colony's primary healthcare facility, combining advanced autodoc technology with human-centered care. Led by Dr. Alex Cruiz (Seat 3) with Head Nurse Terry Fairchild and Chief of Psychology Dr. Zoë Carisco, the Center maintains a staff of physicians, nurses, and mental health specialists who work alongside Utara's diagnostic capabilities. Its basement houses the mortuary, morgue, and autopsy theater—the site of Dr. Kret's unethical experiments on a seven-year-old Celectra, whose escape from this building led to first contact with the Galistanians.

🔬 Science and Technology Center

"Curiosity, codified." — Wall inscription

Research Labs Prototype Workshops Observatory Dome Utara R&D Interface

The beating mind of New Eden, the Science and Technology Center is where the colony's brightest minds gather to push the boundaries of knowledge. Under the leadership of Amerigo Carisco (Seat 4, succeeding the retiring Dr. Lorain Troy), the Center was the hub of the ANI headset development in Book 3, led by Dr. Celectra Carisco with a team including Jaxon, Chen Wei, Ananya Patel, Maya Keahi, and Sam Calder.

🏋️ Activity Center

"Strong bodies, stronger community." — Main hall motto

Olympic Pool Sundome Dojo Climbing Wall Event Space

Affectionately nicknamed the "Mall of Motion," the Activity Center serves as New Eden's comprehensive fitness and recreation facility. Council representative Chibuike Okafor (Seat 7) oversees a space that includes the Sundome Karate dojo—founded by Sensei Onishi Kisa and later led by Aulii Vongphachanh (who defeated Celectra in the Book 2 tournament). The Center's flexible open spaces have hosted art exhibitions (including Maya Keahi's pre-Gallery shows), weddings, and community celebrations.

⚖️ The Plenum

"Not law, but wisdom. Not rule, but consensus." — Chamber inscription

13 Seats Circular Design Utara Mediation Security Office

The Council Chamber is New Eden's seat of governance, designed as a perfect circle with seating in concentric rings—no head of the table, no position of authority. Administrator Isabella Santos (Seat 1) presides over 12 voting members, including Evelyn Roan (Security, Seat 2), Dr. Alex Cruiz (Medicine, Seat 3), Amerigo Carisco (Science, Seat 4), Dr. Nathaniel Webb (Agriculture, Seat 5), Dr. Kenji Yamoto (Environmental Systems, Seat 6), Chibuike Okafor (Athletics, Seat 7), Nazia Thälmann (Logistics, Seat 8), Joaquim Abrahamson (Engineering, Seat 9), Lidia Sebastiani (Energy, Seat 10), Rhea Babić (Orbital, Seat 11), and Claudia Belrose (Cultural Affairs, Seat 12). Celectra Carisco-Bowers holds Seat 13 as non-voting ambassador for Galinstanian Relations.

🏛️ The Nexus

New Eden's Premier Social & Collaborative Hub

Culinary Level Holochambers Guild Rooms Utara Core Well

The Nexus is where scientists argue orbital mechanics over synthesized 1950s milkshakes—the living room of the colony. Its levels include the Social & Culinary Ground Floor (industrial gastronomy, Conversation Terraces), the Holochamber & Data Suites (immersive environments, Tactile Archive), Collaborative "Guild" Rooms (whiteboard walls, project planning), and Utara's physical "Core Well" presence. The sub-level houses the Processing Node for Utara's enhanced local capabilities.

🖼️ Samaya Gallery and Museum of Integration

"Art is what makes us more than engineered." — Founder's dedication

Built Books 4-5 Sixth Building Cultural Archive Crater Vault
Timeline: Constructed between Books 4 and 5, completing the hexagon of central buildings.

Co-founded and co-directed by Maya Keahi (primary visual artist) and Sam Calder (sound sculptor, they/them), the Samaya Gallery celebrates human-Galistani Integration. Much of its collection centers on Dr. Celectra Carisco-Bowers' integral role in first contact. The basement level, built within a small meteor crater, houses archives, storage, and Dr. Carisco-Bowers' personal papers. Before the Gallery existed, Maya mounted exhibitions in the Activity Center's empty dojos and dance studios (Books 2-4). Sam joined Maya personally and professionally in Book 3.

The Central Roundabout

The six buildings are arranged around a beautifully landscaped circular plaza, the de facto address for any visitor: "Meet me at the roundabout."

Features

  • Central Fountain: A kinetic water sculpture that doubles as a cooling mist installation in summer.
  • Pathways: Radial spokes connect each building, with benches and native plantings.
  • Event Space: The roundabout hosts outdoor markets, festivals, and the annual New Eden Day celebration.
  • Utara Kiosks: Information points where the AI can provide directions, event schedules, or simply chat.
  • Time Capsule: A sealed vault beneath the fountain, containing messages from the colony's founders to be opened in 100 years.

The View

From any building's entrance, one sees the others in harmonious arrangement—a constant visual reminder that health, knowledge, activity, governance, community, and art form a complete circle. No building is more important than another; all are necessary.
